U-35 crewmember Wilhelm Ebeling

Wilhelm Ebeling was born on 10.08.1906 in Harburg, and served on board U-35 from its commissioning on 03 November 1938.

He is probably recognizable in this photo:

Wilhelm Ebeling later served on U-31, and was killed when U-31 was sunk on 11 March 1940 during practice maneuvers (the entire crew, shipyard workers and engineers - 58 in all - were killed). The ship was raised and put back into service. Wilhelm Ebeling was buried at the military cemetery Wilhelmshaven-Ehrenfriedhof, Block Ea Grave 140.
